Eneco Subsidiary LichtBlick to Acquire E.ON’s Heating Electricity Business in Germany

Federal Cartel Office and EU Commission Approve Transaction

Green light from Bonn as well as Brussels: Energy provider LichtBlick – a 100% German subsidiary of Eneco – has received the approval to acquire E.ON’s business with heating electricity customers. This means that approximately 260,000 heating electricity customers with 355,000 electricity supply contracts will be transferred to LichtBlick. The transaction is required by the EU Commission as a result of E.ON’s acquisition of innogy.

The German Federal Cartel Office and the EU Commission have now approved the transaction, which was signed in early March. Consequently E.ON’s heating electricity customers will become part of LichtBlick.

“It’s one of E.ON’s priorities ensuring the seamless transfer of the heating electricity customer contracts”, says Ulrich Fischer, Managing Director of E.ON’s heating electricity companies.

LichtBlick will promptly inform the customers. Both companies emphasized that terms and conditions will not be changed as a result of the transaction. LichtBlick is expected to transfer E.ON’s former customers on its brand with effect on August 1st, 2020.

“The acquisition of E.ON’s customers is a milestone for our climate and growth strategy. We are looking forward to welcoming the new customers into the world of LichtBlick. Just like all LichtBlick customers, they will be supplied exclusively with green energy,” stresses Gero Lücking, Managing Director of Energy Trade at LichtBlick. The contracts largely encompass households heated with heat pumps or night storage heating.
